Bespoke Indigo Dyed Curtains Featuring Traditional Japanese Shibori

Bespoke Indigo Dyed Curtains Featuring Traditional Japanese Shibori

I recently completed a custom indigo dyeing project for a set of bespoke curtains. Working on pieces of this scale was certainly a challenge, but it was also an incredibly rewarding experience. Seeing the transformation of the fabric through the dyeing process and creating something truly unique made it all worthwhile.

I'm delighted to say that the customer was very happy with the finished curtains, which is always the most satisfying part of any commission.

For this project, the customer chose Yoroidan Shibori, one of the traditional techniques from Arimatsu Shibori, Japan's renowned centre of shibori craftsmanship. I had the privilege of learning this beautiful technique from Shibori Master Murase during a summer workshop a few years ago.

Yoroidan Shibori creates a striking textured pattern that beautifully showcases the depth and character of natural indigo dye. It remains one of my favourite techniques, and I particularly enjoy adapting it for indigo dyed clothing, hand-dyed textiles, and bespoke home furnishings.

Each piece I create is individually crafted using traditional Japanese resist-dyeing methods, resulting in unique patterns that cannot be replicated by mass production. Whether for custom curtains, indigo dyed apparel, or other handmade textile commissions, I love bringing timeless Japanese craftsmanship into contemporary homes and wardrobes across the UK.

If you're looking for bespoke indigo dyed textiles, custom shibori dyeing, or handcrafted indigo clothing in the UK, I'd be delighted to discuss your ideas.
