Hello everyone!
Today, I’d love to share a special journey into a new form of Shibori — the traditional Japanese art of resist dyeing. This particular technique is called Katano Shibori, named after the legendary Shibori artist Motohiko Katano.
I had admired this method for a long time and finally had the opportunity to learn it from Makiko-san of indigoblue4u in Tokushima. She warmly welcomes students from around the world, sharing her deep knowledge and passion for Shibori. The experience was both inspiring and humbling — truly unforgettable.
For my first project, I created a men’s shirt using Irish linen, featuring the Seigaiha (blue wave) motif in the Katano Shibori style. I’m delighted to say it has already found a new home with a lovely customer!
I’ll be exploring more garments and designs using this beautiful technique soon, so stay tuned — more creations are on the way!
