Indigo Vat

Today, I’d like to share a bit about indigo dyeing. I use a fructose-based organic indigo vat—a modern, environmentally friendly method developed by French botanist Michel Garcia. This process involves mixing natural indigo powder (I get organic indigo) with lime and fructose (a sugar derived from fruit), creating a sustainable alternative to traditional chemical vats.

Many people ask why I don’t wear gloves while dyeing. The reason is simple: when working with techniques like shibori (Japanese tie-dye), it's essential for me to feel the fabric. This tactile connection helps ensure the dye fully penetrates the fibers, resulting in richer, more precise patterns.
